Kentucky Classic Car and Collector Vehicle Insurance (2026)

Classic cars and collector vehicles in Kentucky need specialty insurance — standard auto policies substantially underinsure them. Agreed Value coverage, mileage restrictions, storage requirements, and event coverage are all part of properly insuring a Kentucky-registered classic. Whether you have a 1967 Camaro, 1957 Chevy, muscle car, or European classic, here’s how to protect it right.

Why standard auto insurance is wrong for classic cars

Standard auto insurance uses Actual Cash Value (ACV) on total loss — the depreciated value based on average age. A 1967 Camaro appraised at $80,000 might have an ACV of $3,000 on a standard policy. If it’s totaled, that’s your payout unless you have Agreed Value coverage.

Classic car / collector policy features

  • Agreed Value coverage. You and the carrier agree on the value at policy binding. That’s what you get paid at total loss.
  • Low-mileage rating. Classic policies typically limit annual mileage to 3,000-7,500 miles. Rates are much cheaper because the exposure is limited.
  • Storage requirements. Enclosed garage or approved storage facility usually required.
  • Cars-and-coffee / show event coverage. Coverage while driving to or displayed at car shows.
  • Spare parts coverage. Parts inventory in your garage covered at value.
  • Automatic new-vehicle coverage. Some policies extend coverage to newly-acquired vehicles for 30 days.

Eligibility for classic car insurance

  • Vehicle typically 25+ years old (some carriers 15+)
  • Not used for daily commuting
  • Stored in enclosed garage
  • Owner has clean driving record
  • Owner has separate daily-driver vehicle
  • Vehicle is in “collectible” or “restored” condition
