What is Erie Rate Lock? (Kentucky Guide, 2026)

Erie Rate Lock is an Erie Insurance feature that keeps your auto insurance premium flat between policy changes. No annual “your rate went up” letters. Your premium only adjusts if you add or remove a driver, add or remove a vehicle, or change your address. For Kentucky drivers who hate surprise renewal increases, this is Erie’s most-requested product feature.

Answer verified by Blake Boswell, Erie Insurance appointed agent (KK2322), Murray, KY. Updated July 2026.

How Erie Rate Lock works

  • You elect Rate Lock when binding your Erie auto policy (or at any renewal)
  • Your premium is locked at the current amount
  • Rate does not increase at annual renewal, even if industry-wide rates rise
  • Rate only changes when you make a policy action (add/remove driver, vehicle, or address change)
  • Available in Kentucky and most Erie states — not available in every Erie state
