Boswell Insurance Agency has been voted the Favorite Insurance Agency of Calloway County for 2026 in the Murray Ledger & Times Readers’ Choice Awards. The certificate arrived at our office on North 16th Street this week, and before anything else I want to say the plain thing: thank you. This one was decided by the people we see at the ballpark, the grocery store and church on Sunday, not by a committee, and that is exactly why it means so much to us.

What the award actually is

The Ledger & Times has run its Favorites of Calloway County ballot for years. Readers vote for their favorite people, places and businesses in the city and county, everything from a favorite plate of catfish to a favorite elected official, and the paper publishes the results in its Readers’ Choice section. Two rules keep it honest. The awards only go to businesses and individuals located inside Calloway County, and the paper’s staff checks the votes so a business is only counted in a category that fits it. You can read how the ballot works in the Ledger & Times’ own write-up at murrayledger.com.

So the 2026 certificate hanging in our office says one thing: when Calloway County residents were asked which insurance agency they liked working with, enough of them wrote down ours.

Why it means a little extra to a young agency

We opened Boswell Insurance Agency in Murray to give Western Kentucky a true independent option, and we have only been writing business since early 2024. Most of the agencies on that ballot have been part of this town for decades, and plenty of them do good work. For a family-owned office that is not yet three years old to be voted the county favorite tells me the thing we set out to do is landing with people.

That thing is simple, and I have written about it here before: protect first, sell second. We take the time to understand what you are protecting, we put Erie and our other carriers side by side so you can see real options, and we explain the choice in plain English. Then we stick around for the renewals, the claims and the “what does this letter mean?” phone calls.

What changes now

Honestly, nothing, and that is on purpose. The award is a nice thing to hang on the wall, but it is a snapshot of how people felt about the work this year. The only way to earn it again is to keep doing the work the same way next year.

So here is what you can keep expecting from our office:

  • We shop, you choose. As an independent agency, we work for you, not for an insurance company. If a better fit for your household exists among our carriers, we tell you.
  • We re-shop at renewal. Your account gets a fresh look every year instead of a quiet auto-renew while the premium creeps up.
  • You call, we answer. A real person in Murray who knows your account, not a phone tree.

If you are one of the folks who voted for us, thank you for trusting us with the things you have worked hardest for. If you are a client who had a rough claim or a confusing renewal this year, I would rather hear about it than have you keep quiet, so call me.

A word of thanks to the team

A certificate with the agency’s name on it is really a certificate with the whole office’s name on it. The people who answer the phone, chase down a carrier on a claim and walk a first-time buyer through a dec page are the reason anyone voted. The photo at the top of this page is the four of us outside the office the afternoon the certificate came in, and I am proud to stand in that line.

If we haven’t met yet

If you have lived in Calloway County for a while and have never had an independent agent put your current coverage next to a couple of other options, this is a good excuse. Learn more about how we approach home insurance, or just send your current declarations page to our Murray office and we will walk through it with you. You can also call (270) 925-1524 or start a quote at /quote, and we will take it from there.

This article is general information about how coverage typically works, not advice about your specific situation. Every policy reads a little differently, and yours is the only thing that says what you have. If you’d like a second set of eyes on it, send us your current dec page and we’ll walk through it with you.
